SPORTS: Flying Eagles maul Lugbe United 12-0 in friendly

Nigeria U20 side spanked Lugbe United 12-0 in a friendly game played in Abuja on Thursday morning.
Hat-tricks from Taiwo Awoniyi and Alhassan Ibrahim inspired a massive victory for the Garba Manu team as they intensify preparations for the 2015 African Youth Championship qualifiers where they face either Kenya or Tanzania in May.

Alhassan opened scoring in the 13th minute of the encounter after his rebound sent the opposing the goalkeeper the wrong way after he had stopped his initial efforts off a corner kick with Awoniyi getting the second goal two minutes later after getting a pass from Ifeanyi Mathew.

Mathew converted a penalty in the 26th minute to put Manu Garba ahead after Awoniyi was forcefully brought down in the penalty area of Lugbe United before providing another assist for Bernard Bulbwa.

The goal feast continued in the 14th minutes on resumption of the second half as Alhassan scored another goal for the Nigeria U20 side before completing his treble few minutes later.

Abubakar Lawal, Sulaiman Abdullahi , Mustapha Abdulahi also had their names on the scorers’ sheet in the one sided encounter.

The Flying Eagles are expected to depart the country for Morocco on Sunday where they will be facing the Junior Atlas Lions in a two-legged friendly match billed for Cascablanca on April 9 and 11.

Gunmen Kidnap Edwin Clarks Son

SUSPECTED kidnappers have abducted Mr. Ebi Clark, son of Ijaw national leader and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, currently a delegate to the National Conference.

He was reportedly kidnapped, Wednesday, at Clark’s countryhome, Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State by the gunmen, who invaded the community.
A source told Vanguard that they whisked him away in a speedboat through the Kiagbodo River, connecting Ramos and Forcados Rivers in Bayelsa and Delta states.

Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed the abduction when contacted on phone by Vanguard, saying, “One of the suspects is already with us and we have spread our dragnets to pick up others and secure his release.”

He said the kidnappers struck on Wednesday afternoon, but with the search operation by the police, “I can assure you that they will be no place for them to hide.”

Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Mr. Eric Omare, told Vanguard, yesterday, that information at the disposal of the council indicated that Clark’s son had been taken by the kidnappers to their hideout.

His words, “ The IYC officials in riverine areas of Ingbelebiri, Oporomor and Seimbiri clans of Delta and Bayelsa states have been diretcted to trace and fish out the kidnappers.”
He said the IYC would use resources at its disposal to fighting kidnapping and other acts of criminality in Ijaw land.”

An Ijaw youth leader, Mr. Austin Yadah, described the kidnap of Ebi Clark, “as an embarassment”, adding, “Why are our youths not showing respect to elders. Of all persons, what will make them kidnap Chief Clark’s son, is it to distract him from he is doing at the National Conference or what.”

“What ransom do they want him to pay now and why should he pay it. If they want quick money, they should direct their attention somewhere else because no ransom will be paid and we will get them,” he added.

Man Arrested With Human Parts In Ogun State

A suspected ritualist was arrested yesterday after severed human parts were found on him after he tried to apprehend a woman who was miraculously saved by a passer-by. The passer-by also demanded to see what the suspect had in the cellophane bag with him, but he declined and made to flee before the man forcefully tore it only to find different human parts.

The man raised an alarm which attracted a crowd from the nearby cement factory to the scene. The crowd mobbed him and almost killed him before police came to his rescue.

At first, he pretended he was mentally deranged, but when he realized the crowd won’t stop lynching him, he begged for forgiveness and said he was ready to confess.

He confessed he belonged to a five-person syndicate who have been operating in the Ewekoro axis for the past nine months.

When their den located in Iyana Egbado Village, along Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway, Ewekoro Local Government in Ogun State was visited, human parts sliced into pieces, plastic containers filled with human blood, ladies under-wear, shoes, knifes, blood stained dresses, and a duvet were found there.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, however confirmed the incident and said investigation was on-going, but appealed to members of the public to avoid public lynching of suspects.

Man Jailed 25yrs For Attempting To Kill Obama

An Idaho man who admitted trying to assassinate President Barack Obama by shooting at the White House received a 25-year prison sentence on Monday.

Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, 23, appeared in federal court after pleading guilty in September to terrorism and weapons charges. He had been originally indicted on 17 criminal counts.
Prosecutors had charged Ortega-Hernandez with firing a Romanian-made assault rifle out of the window of his car the evening of 11 November, 2011.

After sending a number of rounds toward the White House, he sped away toward a bridge leading to the Virginia suburbs, but crashed his vehicle and fled on foot, officials said.

The government said Ortega-Hernandez’s fingerprints were found on ammunition magazines left in a 1998 Honda, but not on the weapon itself, which also was left in the car.
Neither the President nor his family were at home at the time of the incident.

“This man drove cross-country to launch an assault rifle attack on the White House from Constitution Avenue,” said U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen, whose office prosecuted the case. “He was motivated by hatred for the President and the desire to start a revolution against the federal government.

“We are very fortunate that his bullets narrowly missed the U.S. Secret Service officers guarding the White House that night. This 25-year prison sentence demonstrates that anyone who comes to the nation’s capital planning to use violence should expect to spend decades behind bars.”

Ortega-Hernandez was captured at a Pennsylvania motel five days after the incident.

In court documents, prosecutors argued Ortega-Hernandez was dangerous and planned out his alleged crime over a period of months.

According to the FBI, Ortega-Hernandez’s friends reported that he made anti-government statements beginning in 2010.

Officials said he believed the federal government was trying to control Americans through GPS, fluoride and aspartame.

He was also angry at what he believed was U.S. bullying of other countries, including in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and claimed that the President was the “anti-Christ” and told friends he was “on a mission from God to take out Obama.”

"We rushed down to the scene and found out this lifeless body lying over there. Immediately we alerted the police and they came.
There is no clue yet on what could have happened to the lady. But it is like a case of murder that took place somewhere. Apparently, the perpetrators had waited for the cover of the dark to drop her corpse here. "Nobody can say exactly when they did this but it surely cannot be anything around 10pm and 11pm last night because we still passed through this area when we were on surveillance watch last night."
Her bag, phone and personal effects were still in her bag and her phone was used to contact her frienda dn family .One of the first to arrive was Ogugbua Godwin Anabor who identified her as Rita Onwuli, a 300 level Economics student of LASU from Illah, Delta State

Man Slits Woman’s Throat For Rituals In Ibadan

Ms Chiwendu Nkwocha is lucky to still be alive after a Muslim cleric, Isa Salaudeen attempted to slit her throat in his apartment in Ibadan. Chinwendu was said to have found herself in the cleric’s apartment after her boyfriend took her there for spiritual cleansing.
She was tied down and her face covered thinking he was getting her ready for the cleansing, until she felt a sharp object piercing through her throat and she cried out for help. The ‘Alfa’ would have succeeded, but the knife he took wasn’t sharp enough. As he was about changing the knife, the woman made more noise and people broke into his apartment to find her tied down and bleeding. She was rushed to UCH where she is presently receiving treatment and the cleric was instantly arrested.

The Oyo state police command has said the suspect is already helping them with useful information.

Police Declare Obesere Innocent Of Rape Allegation

In a chat with Encomium magazine, on Friday, March 28, 2014, the Lagos State Police Command Spokesperson, Mrs Ngozi Braide has said Miss Nike Olaiya who accused Obesere of rape is a blackmailer and extortionist. She said they both agreed they had canal knowledge of each other but Nike was only trying to blackmail him afterwards. Here’s how Encomium puts it;
‘As far as we're concerned, and based on the investigations carried out so far on the matter, most of the allegations by Obesere's accuser, Olanike Olaiya were fabricated. Although, they both admitted having canal knowledge of each other, there was absolutely nothing to show that Nike was raped as she claimed. It was a frame -up because the lady has refused to honour police invitation. And the doctor's report available to us has shown that she was not raped. We're made to understand that this lady on her own went to Obesere's house in search of Obesere, that she spent the nights there. She was there cooking and everybody in the house ate. Continue after the cut...

People in that house have equally made statements. I think there was a mutual relationship between the two of them. Nike is a 29 year old lady, a divorcee. I think during the period she was in the house, they had canal knowledge of each other, and she left him after which she went to the station to allege that she was raped. I think there was a case of mutual relationship between both parties as well as extortion attempt’’.
"Before she went to make such allegations, she had already contacted Obesere on phone to demand certain amount that she was bleeding and so on. Obesere now invited her to a hospital. The doctor examined her and he didn't see anything abnormal. And they said for further clarification, she should go for scan. She left and never returned to the hospital."
But investigation is still in progress. Police would not rest until we get to the root of the matter and we will make the outcome known to the public.
Reacting on the development on Saturday march 29,2014, Omo rapala , as Obesere is known , said, I thank God I have been vindicated by the outcome of the investigations so far conducted by the police. What's next is to enter the studio for my next album. I thank God and that people have identified with me so far. I am very sure the police will soon get to the root of the matter."

Asked to give details of the new album , he said , It's about the incident .But I am yet to decide on its title. Marketers have shown up but it will be marketed and distributed by Ola Oluwa records, Alaba International Market, Lagos. By the special grace of God, it will be out before the end of April this year, he said.

16 die at job test centres, minister confirms

Sixteen persons were confirmed to have died during the nationwide job recruitment test organised by the Nigeria Immigration Service on Saturday.

Mr Abba Moro, the Minister of Interior gave the confirmation during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Moro said that in Edo state one female applicant collapsed at the venue of the exercise and was rushed to the hospital where she died.

He said that in Jigawa state a male applicant died in an accident on his way to the venue of the exercise while in Niger two persons died as a result of the stampede.

He said that seven applicants in the FCT died also from the stampede while in Rivers five persons died.
Some applicants sustained injuries during the exercise with some have being treated and discharged while others are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country.

As at the time of filing this report, the bodies of some of the participants who lost their lives have been identified by their families at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Mr Mohammed Yekini, brother to one of the deceased, told NAN that he was still waiting for the authorities of the hospital to release the corpse.

Yekini, who is also a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic in Nassarawa state and hails from Okene in Kogi state, lamented the inhuman treatment participants were subjected to during the exercise.
He called on government to show more consideration to the plight of unemployed youths in the country.
He said that the deceased was married with a child.

Another participant of the exercise, Mrs Abigail Aroniya, whose brother is presently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, described the treatment they received during the exercise as inhuman.
Abigail said that most participants arrived the venue at the time slated for the exercise but the gate to the stadium was locked and officials of the immigration service were not there.

She said that when the officials finally arrived everyone tried to struggle into the venue and in the process some persons were pushed down and trampled upon.

Meanwhile, Moro has visited the victims of the stampede, who are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja.
While some victims have been treated and released from the hospital about 11 are still on admission.
Moro confirmed that the victims who have been released had sufficiently recovered and were in stable condition.
“Some family members of victims have also showed up here and we have interacted with them.
“I promised that the ministry and the service will do everything possible to ameliorate the consequences of what happened yesterday,” he said.

He said the primary focus of the ministry was to show support in any way possible to the victims still in hospitals and families of those that died.
Moro said that it was premature to talk about the employment for the victims for the moment as families were in mourning.

He said that every step required of the ministry and the service to conduct a hitch free exercise was done.
“I gave you the assurance that this exercise would be cost effective, transparent and would avoid the mistake of the past where all the candidates converged in Abuja and we had stampede and deaths.
“We tried to decentralise the exam this time and posted senior officers of the immigration, NSCDC and the police to various centres,” he said.

Moro said that over 526,650 persons nationwide applied for the recruitment and the security personnel deployed were adequate based on the number.
He said that the FCT Commissioner of Police would be at the National Hospital to ensure early release of the corpses to family members.

“We have undertaken to provide ambulance to assist the family convey the corpses; we have also asked that records of persons who are coming to claim this corpse be recorded.
“This is to enable us reach them. Those who are in the hospital we will monitor them judiciously and see what we can do to ameliorate their situation” the minister said

Ghanian Prophet Predicts Death Of Yvone Nelson and others

A certain prophet in Ghana has said on a radio show in Ghana that some of the country’s well-loved celebrities will all face death soon. Prophet Samuel Baffour of El Shaddai Prayer Centre claims God revealed the names to him and even went ahead listing their names out on air. The names he mentioned are; Jim Iyke’s girlfriend, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Nelson,  Samini, Obour, Kabobo and Lil' Win.
Continue after the cut to see how he predicted their death.

Nadia Buari
Her death will be a replication of Suzzy William’s death. Suzzy, a budding actress died in a motor accident along the Labadi-Tema road.
Yvonne Nelson

He said a lot of Ghanaians hate her and are planning her untimely death. Someone is working against the actress in a move that will stall her progress. She will sink so low nobody will recognize her and it will eventually lead to her death.
Lil' Win
Kumawood actor will die in bizarre circumstances. Lil’ Win will die either by knocking down somebody with his car which will result in his lynching or he will drive his car into a tree or an electric pole.
Obour
The Musicians Union of Ghana President’s name was also revealed to the Prophet as one of those who will die.  A fellow musician will die and during the funeral, some persons will poison Obour. His tummy will bloat (more than it is now) as a result of the poison which will lead to his death.
Samini
The ‘African Dancehall King’ was the first on the death list. According to the prophet, some persons in the music industry are planning the death of Samini. He claimed that some persons are envious of the talent and success of the artiste and are plotting to harm him which will lead to his death.

Heavy gunfire, explosions in Maiduguri

The city of Maiduguri in Borno state this morning experienced three large explosions suspected to be a major bomb attack, Sahara Reporters reports

Saharareporters could not ascertain if the explosions led to deaths or destruction of any kind. But our sources states that the three explosions were heard across the city.
SaharaRepoprters learnt that fighters from the Islamist sect Boko Haram are attempting to bomb and take over a major military base known as "Giwa barracks" in Maiduguri. A gunfight is raging in the area as at the time of publishing this report.

Reuters has reported heavy gunfire in Maiduguri, capital of the embattled north east state of Borno.
The news agency said the gun fire raged for two hours in Maiduguri on Friday morning, residents said, and explosions were heard at the Giwa barracks, where the army has detained hundreds of Islamist insurgent suspects.

Al Qaeda-linked Boko Haram has killed thousands in an almost five-year-long insurgency aimed at carving out an Islamic state in the religiously diverse country of about 170 million people.
“The sound of heavy gunfire and what sounds like RPGs (rocket propelled grenades) began at around 7:15 a.m. and it is still going,” a Reuters witness said. The fighting was happening at Fori, an area near a military barracks, he said.

Boko Haram is the biggest security threat in Africa’s top oil exporter and the continent’s second biggest economy. More than 2,000 people have been killed in Boko Haram violence in the last six months, security sources say.

President Goodluck Jonathan intensified the military campaign almost a year ago to oust insurgents from their stronghold in the poor and undeveloped northeast but it has failed to stem the bloodshed.
Violence in recent months has mostly been confined to rural regions where Boko Haram often gains the upper hand against the military. An attack on the northeast’s biggest city where there is a heavy army presence would be a setback for Jonathan.
