Boy,15, rapes 3 kids, including 10 month-old baby

An Upper Area Court in Mararaba,in the central Nigerian state of Nasarawa has been remanded a 15-year-old -boy in prison custody for alleged raping three children, including a 10-month old baby.

The accused, himself a minor, who lives in Rafin Kwara Masaka, was charged for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two sisters, a six year-old and an 8-year-old and the 10 month old baby, all in the same house.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Joseph Ahua, told the court that the matter was reported by the victims’ parents, at Masaka Police Station on 12 September.

He said that the accused was arrested and during police investigation he confessed to committing the offence.

He said that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.

“Whoever has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 14 years and shall also be liable to fine,’’ the Penal Code reads.

The accused, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and his counsel, Mr R.N. Mbu applied for his bail.

The presiding officer, Mr Vincent Gwehemba, however, refused the bail application and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison pending final investigation on the matter.

He adjourned the case till 16 October for further hearing.

Why Nigeria Was Excluded From 2015 DV Lottery – U.S Envoy

The United States Consul-General, Mr. Jeffery Hawkins, on Thursday, gave reasons why Nigeria was excluded from the 2015 Diversity-Visa-Programme registration.

Hawkins told journalists at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, that Nigeria was among other countries that had in the last five years, sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the country through the programme.
“As at today, Nigerians have graduated from being under-represented to being a fully well represented group in the U.S.
“There is therefore no longer any need to encourage Nigerians to apply to travel to the U.S. through the Diversity-Visa-Programme.

“Already there are too many Nigerians in the U.S. that have benefited from this programme,’’ he said.
The envoy explained that the diversity visa was created to promote countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S.
Hawkins said that Nigeria and other affected countries had already exceeded their quota in the last five years.
He, however, stressed that the U.S. authorities would continue to give preference to Nigerians travelling to U.S for visits, business transactions, studies and professional engagements.

“All other types of immigration from Nigeria to the U.S, apart from the diversity visa, would continue unabated.
“Also, let me say that the ban has nothing to do with our relations with Nigeria now, and in the years ahead,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the envoy as saying to journalists.

He also dismissed insinuations making the rounds that the move was to reduce the number of Nigerians travelling to the U.S.
The U.S official also said that the development had “nothing to do with insecurity, activities of Boko Haram and other forms of upheaval in Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that the U.S. Department of State, banned Nigeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador and Haiti from participating in the 2015 Diversity-Visa-Programme.
Other affected countries are: India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam.

"James Ibori gave me $15million as bribe in 2007" - Nuhu Ribadu

Desperate to halt a probe into his finances, governor James Ibori tried to bribe former anti-corruption boss Nuhu Ribadu in 2007 with $15 million in cash in a bag so heavy one man alone could not lift it, Ribadu told a London court on Thursday.

Ribadu said he pretended to take the bribe because he wanted the cash as evidence to use against Ibori in a prosecution, but rather than keep the money for himself he had it taken straight to the Central Bank of Nigeria to be kept safe in a vault. Continue..

Ribadu told the court that about $1 billion flowed from federal government accounts into Delta State coffers during Ibori’s eight years in power, and he estimated Ibori had stolen or wasted more than half of that amount.

The charges to which Ibori pleaded guilty amount to the theft of about $80 million, but British prosecutors say that was only part of his total booty, which was kept hidden via a complex web of shell companies, offshore accounts and front men.

Ribadu, who was chairman of  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from April 2003 to December 2007, was giving evidence at a confiscation hearing in which prosecutors are seeking court orders to have Ibori’s assets seized.

Under Nigeria’s constitution, state governors enjoy immunity from prosecution but are limited to two terms in office. With the end of his second term looming in April 2007, Ibori was worried the EFCC were planning to prosecute him, Ribadu said.

“He was very desperate to terminate the investigation,” he told the court.
In late April 2007, a meeting was arranged between the two men at a “neutral place”, the house of Andy Uba, a close associate of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Ibori arrived at the house with several members of his staff and a very large black sack containing $15 million in cash. Ribadu said he watched as two of Ibori’s men lifted the heavy sack and handed it over to his own EFCC staff. “It was a bag that an individual could not carry alone,” he said.

The EFCC men drove the bag to the central bank where the money was counted and boxed into smaller containers. The court was shown photographs of the boxes of cash.

“I have given you money Nuhu, just give me my clearance,” Ribadu quoted Ibori as telling him after those events.

Instead, the EFCC continued to investigate Ibori’s affairs and had him arrested on corruption charges on December 12, 2007.

It will be recalled that the Delta state government had approached the court asking that the money belonged to the state government and should therefore be returned to the state. The EFCC are however opposed to the return of the money to the state.

The EFCC says that “that the said sum of $15 Million cannot be traced to any account owned or being operated by the Delta State Government or any of its agencies and officials”.

Suntai’s letter to Assembly was forged – Speaker tells Court

Taraba State House of Assembly Speaker, Haruna Tsokwa, today told a Taraba High Court that the signature on the letter, purportedly written by Governor Danbaba Suntai, informing the lawmakers of his intention to resume duties, was forged.

Suntai had on August 26, sent the contentious letter to the Assembly.

But the lawmakers rejected the governor’s letter, and advised Suntai to go back and continue with his treatment, insisting that there was no evidence to prove he was totally fit.

They in turn asked the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, to continue in acting capacity, a decision that prompted Suntai to sue the House and the 15 other members, who opposed his resumption of duty.

Counsel for the governor, Alex Izinyon SAN, in his originating summons, is praying the court to interpret Section 190(2) of the 1999 Constitution, with regards to the letter.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Tuesday, the Speaker and the House members, through their counsels, Yusufu Akirikwen and Yusuf Ali, both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, doubted the authenticity of the letter, arguing that Suntai could not have signed the letter as he was not medically fit to do so.

Private jet: El-Rufai dismisses CAN’s threat

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Deputy National Secretary of the opposition All Progressives Congress, Nasir el-Rufai, says he is not perturbed by the seven-day ultimatum given to him by the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

El-Rufai had, in an interview with a national newspaper (not The PUNCH) described the CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, as the “propaganda chief” of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party; adding that he “knows who gave him (Oritsejafor) his private jet.”

But the CAN leadership on Sunday asked el-Rufai to, within seven days, mention the name of the person who bought a private jet for Oritsejafor, threatening that failure to do so will force the association to “open up” on the former minister’s “dirty life.”

However, some of el-Rufai’s Twitter followers have tweeted at him, saying they were worried about the ultimatum.
One of his followers with the name Demola, who tweeted at el-Rufai on Monday asked, “CAN gives @elrufai seven days or what will happen?”

Responding to this, el-Rufai tweeted, “Nothing. And I am waiting for the days to pass. Hehehe.
Meanwhile, el-Rufai’s statement has pitched some of his social media fans against him. The former minister had posted the full text of the interview on his Facebook page.

Some of his followers on the social network described his diatribe against Oritsejafor as rude and uncalled for.  According to many of them, insulting the CAN President, who is also the head of the Christian community in Nigeria, amounts to taking a swipe at the generality of Christians in the country. To this end, some of them dropped angry comments on his Facebook page.

“Look Nasir, withdraw those statements you are making against a man of God! But, if you still insist, then, the anointing upon his life will respond to you drastically.  Remember that a man who makes trouble for others is also making trouble for himself. Thank you,” one Okechukwu Chukwuemeka  wrote.
Osita Ndidi-Opurum described el-Rufai’s allegations as “rubbish” and one that is capable of causing disaffection between the faithful of the two main religions.

“All this lengthy speech amounts to talking rubbish and insulting Christians and their leader in Nigeria.  When can you (el-Rufai) ever be a man? You don’t even have respect for those in authority.  I wonder where and how you will feel in 2015 if your preferred presidential candidate does not win the election.  May be you will run out of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have slammed the CAN leadership and asked it to leave its battle for God to fight.  One Emmanuel Chidiogo  in a Twitter post asked, “Is CAN trying to fight for God? All the rain of abuses on @elrufai is uncalled for and immature.”

Some Nigerians, while reacting to the ultimatum on various social networking sites, said the ultimatum appeared more like blackmailing el-Rufai. Those who belong to this group wondered why CAN waited for a time when “unguarded statements” were made against its president before threatening to expose the “dirty life” of el-Rufai.

“So, CAN is using it now as blackmail when they should have, indeed, exposed him as genuine Christians without giving him conditions. It shows how biased all of them are,” one Auchman stated on punchng.com.
As if that was not enough, some Nigerians said Oritsejafor made himself susceptible to such attack due to the alleged ostentatious life he lives.

A Facebook user, Augustine Oregie-Okpomeh  wrote, “In the first place, what are pastors doing with private jets worth billions of naira in a country where a large percentage of your members can ill afford three-square meals daily? Christ never preached expensive lifestyles and neglect of the poor while He was alive.  You (Oritsejafor) called the insults to yourself!”

Arguing in line with Oregie-Okpomeh, a reader on punchng.com, Frank stated, “Inasmuch as I don’t support El-Rufai’s statement concerning Christians, the question is: Is Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor a saint? Where does he have the money to purchase a private jet?

“The so called Pastor Oritsejafor is a disgrace to Christendom in Nigeria. Anyway, he should allow God to fight for Himself; who is he to fight for God? Our Lord Jesus Christ oversees the affairs of Christians and Muslims alike; so, allow God to fight for Himself.”

Pastor Kumuyi Warns Members to Stay Away from Video CDs Released by 'Prophetess' Linda Ngaujah

Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has disowned the controversial videos of a 'prophetess' and others who claimed to have died, gone to heaven and came back to narrate their extra-terrestrial experience.

In the controversial videos being sold all over Nigeria, two women and a boy claimed they died, went to heaven and came back to narrate what they said God showed them. WATCH IT HERE

One of such CDs is that of a Sierra Leonean woman, simply called Sister Linda Ngaujah. Linda said she died and was shown happenings in heaven and hell and that many of the members of a large church on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway are on their way to hell and that the founder of a leading church in Lagos should repent as he allegedly acquired his powers from the devil, saying that a Bishop of another large congregation and his members are not even recognised in heaven.

She added that women who used rubber and wool to plait their hair will go to hell as it is a sin and that the only way for people to be prepared for heaven is to go back to the old Deeper Life Bible Church's method of dressing.

Shareholders fight Jay Jay Okocha & wife over sports company

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed 18 September to decide either to relist or not Jay-Jay Okocha Group West Africa Limited in a petition filed against the former captain of the Super Eagles, Okocha Austin Azuka a.k.a Jay-Jay Okocha and his wife Nkechi Okocha.

Also joined as co-defendant is a limited liability company; Jay-Jay Okocha Group West Africa Limited, jointly formed by the former footballer and six other shareholders namely; Friday Nwankero-Kuja, Ijeoma Kuja, Nwankwo-Kuja, James Chinedu, Nwankwo Kuja Daniel Chukwudi, Nwankwo Kuja Mary Chioma.
Two other companies Africa Shelter Sports Consultant Limited, Friday Nwankwo and Sons Limited are also petitioners in the impending legal hostility.

In an affidavit sworn to by a Director and shareholder of Jay-Jay Okocha Group West Africa Limited, Friday Nwankwo Kuja, and filed before the Court by a Lagos Lawyer, Barrister Caleb Rotimi Oyekola, the petitioners who claimed to be shareholders of the company which was incorporated to arrange, organise, finance  and present sporting events, alleged that Okocha and his wife, Nkechi, who are the Chairman and Managing Directors of the company respectively are conducting the affairs of the company in an illegal and oppressive manner.

Mr. Kuja alleged further that at the formative stage of the company located at 46, Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, he expended a total sum of N63m, while he was performing his duties as the Executive Director in the affairs of the company diligently and productively.
He said he and other shareholders have now been sidelined.

However, when he started clamoring for the auditing of the company’s account in line with the provisions of the Company and Allied Matters Act to ascertain if the company was making profit and to also enable the company to file its annual returns to the Corporate Affairs Commission, the respondents decided to illegally and unlawfully ease him out of his position as a Director contrary to the provision of the Company and Allied Matters Act.
Consequently, the respondents without any valid resolution of the company conspired together to have his properties thrown out of his office without any authorisation from the Board of Directors whereas himself and other petitioners mentioned earlier are the majority shareholders of the company.

Thereafter all efforts to have General Meeting of the company as well as have the account of the company audited and preparation of the general statement of the company were met with strong resistance by Okocha and his wife.

The petitioner alleged further that since the formation and commencement of the operation of the company, no board and general meeting ever held
It was also alleged that the respondents are at the verge of selling off one of the business company called Club 10.

Islamic group wins protest-Miss world 2013 moved from Jakarta to Bali

Days after an Islamic group staged a protest against the organizers of the 2013 Miss World pageant, demanding that the pageant should not be held in Jakarta as it runs against their culture, the pageant organizers have been forced to move the final of the pageant to Bali - where they said today that it would be 'impossible' to stage the finale there, because of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, where world leaders and thousands of officials are expected to attend. The summit begins at the beginning of October while the pageant is scheduled to take place on September 28.
“I think people can appreciate how complex it would be to move everything to Bali. Just getting the venue and all the accommodation is impossible with APEC here" Nana Putra, executive director of organizer, told AFP.
The Miss World organizers have said they have no plans to cancel this year's event, vowing to petition Indonesian authorities to move the event back to Java. But also said they would use a back up venue in Indonesia if authorities don't change their mind.
